Born in Newton, Massachusetts, Dan graduated magna cum laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1998. Dan went on to Vermont Law School where he was a staff member of the Vermont Law Review and a member of the rugby team. Dan received the American Jurisprudence Award in constitutional law and graduated cum laude in 2001.
Throughout his career, Dan has focused on representing clients in litigation. Dan began his career as an associate with Donovan & O’Connor, a litigation firm with Offices in Bennington, Vermont and North Adams, Massachusetts. Dan went on to work as a prosecutor, serving as a deputy state’s attorney in both Windham County and Bennington County. As a prosecutor, Dan tried numerous jury trials to verdict, engaged in significant motion practice and argued matters before the Vermont Supreme Court. Dan ended his career as a prosecutor in 2006, when he joined the law firm of Barr Sternberg Moss Lawrence & Silver. From 2009-2011, Dan was designated a “Rising Star” by the peer-review organization, New England Super Lawyers.
In 2014, Dan opened The McManus Law Office in Manchester, Vermont. Dan’s practice continues to focus on litigation in both civil and criminal courts throughout Vermont. Dan provides vigorous advocacy for individuals and businesses in a wide variety of matters.
Dan lives in Manchester with his wife and children. He currently serves on the board of the Bennington County Center for Restorative Justice and is an at-large director for the Vermont Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. In this free time, Dan enjoys reading, hiking, cooking and time with his family.
